ABOUT ME
Stefanie Leila
Midwife · Doula · Birthkeeper · Witnessing Birth & Becoming
I accompany women and families through one of life’s most profound portals: pregnancy, birth and the time that follows.
I grew up in the Tyrolean Alps. After studying Political Science, I felt called to explore the world beyond the mountains I knew. I travelled, lived in different countries and, along the way, discovered not only new cultures and ways of living, but also more of myself.
In 2016, my journey brought me to Mexico – and it was there that I found my calling.

THE CALL TO BIRTH
Becoming a midwife was a dream I carried from childhood. At 18, however, I chose a different path.
Years later, after a period of deep personal exploration and a Vision Quest, that inner calling returned with a clarity I could no longer ignore:
I wanted to accompany women and families through the profound transformation of pregnancy, birth and becoming a parent.
Not long afterwards, I began my training with Angelina Martínez Miranda, a traditional midwife in Mexico.
MY YEARS OF LEARNING IN MEXICO
For four years, I had the privilege of learning alongside Angelina – accompanying her at births, pregnancy consultations, postpartum visits, massages, herbal baths and rituals, as well as sharing in the ordinary rhythms of everyday life.
It was an education for all the senses – and on every level.
I learned traditional knowledge around pregnancy, birth and Cuarentena. But perhaps even more importantly, I learned ways of being that continue to shape my work today: presence, intuition, devotion and a deep respect for life.
Angelina became an important mentor to me. After four years, she gave me her blessing to walk my own path.
In a symbolic gesture, she cut the umbilical cord – and released me to begin my own journey as a midwife.
MIDWIFE & DOULA
Today, I bring together my experience as a midwife and doula with the knowledge, wisdom and perspectives that have shaped my journey.
As a midwife, I have accompanied women and families through many different situations – during pregnancy, at home births, in birth centres, in hospitals and throughout the postpartum period.
I have been present as a midwife at around 250 home and birth-centre births, as well as accompanying many more women as a doula.
My work has also been enriched through training in systemic therapy and family constellations, yoga and bodywork.
For me, knowledge matters. But so does the ability to truly listen, to notice what is happening beneath the surface and to be fully present – with all the senses.
What does this woman need – right now?
BIRTH AS TRANSFORMATION
For me, birth is about far more than a baby entering the world.
A mother is born. A father is born. A family is born.
Birth can be one of the most profound transformations we experience in life. It touches the body, our emotions and thoughts, our identity and our relationship with life itself.
I believe there is enormous potential for growth within this transformation.
And at the same time, I know that not every birth unfolds the way we hoped or imagined.
When that happens, the experience still deserves space. I accompany women in telling their birth story, making sense of what happened, processing what they experienced and finding their own place within their story.
Because every birth matters. Every story deserves to be told and heard.
WHO AM I WHEN I AM NOT A MIDWIFE?
I am curious, adventurous and a free spirit.
I love discovering new places, meeting people and experiencing different cultures. I love to sing and dance, and I have practised yoga and meditation for many years.
I am a Moondancer and feel deeply connected to the cycles of life, nature and the feminine.
I love learning, growing, changing and discovering new facets of life again and again.
Perhaps this curiosity is also part of what I bring into my work.
WHAT MOVES ME TODAY
I love my work.
It moves me deeply to accompany women and families through such a profound transition. To witness a woman opening, finding trust, transforming and growing beyond herself.
To witness a baby being born. A mother being born. A couple becoming a family.
It is a great honour to accompany women, babies, fathers and families through this portal of life.
For me, Alma Birth Portal is a space where you can meet yourself while new life is being born.
Let’s get to know each other.
A free conversation to meet, ask questions and share.
Would you rather write to me?
Maybe you already have a specific question. Or perhaps you simply want to share where you are on your journey right now.
I’d love to hear from you.
